
Norwood and surrounding areas
Norwood is a community in the northwest section of the Bronx. This quiet neighborhood is situated just south of Van Cortlandt Park, with the Bronx River at the east, and Mosholu Parkway at the southern and western borders. Pre-war apartments can be found throughout the community, in both low and mid-rise buildings. While many blocks host semi-detached townhouses and similar multi-family units, some single-family homes still stand in the neighborhood.
Residents of Norwood have many options for transportation into Manhattan. This includes the number 4 and the D express trains within a 6 – 8 minute walk to the stations. Commuters can also walk 10 minutes and take the Metro-North Railroad to Midtown’s Grand Central Terminal in under 25 minutes. And in an pinch, residents can walk
The neighborhood’s central greenspace is the Williamsbridge Oval Playground, which has several recreational attractions for the active resident. Available facilities include basketball courts, bocce ball courts, a dog run, football field, tennis courts, and of course, playgrounds.
One of Norwood’s main commercial strips is East 204th Street/Bainbridge Avenue, where storefronts dominate most of the building space at street-level. East Gun Hill Road and the Jerome Avnue business districts also provides residents with plenty of commercial establishments from which to choose when running errands.
